New York
Where to find events in New York.
New York's problem is not finding events, it is filtering them. Broadway and off-Broadway, the museum programme, the club circuit and the comedy scene each have their own ecosystem of listings, and none of them talk to each other.
Which New York listings are worth checking?
For theatre, the Broadway and off-Broadway listings sites are separate from the venues themselves, and TodayTix and TDF handle the discount end. For music, Bowery Presents venues, Brooklyn Steel, Music Hall of Williamsburg and Elsewhere publish their own calendars, with Resident Advisor and Dice covering club nights.
The museums are where the most gets missed. MoMA, the Met, the Whitney, the Brooklyn Museum and the New Museum all run talks, screenings and late openings that sit on a different page from the exhibition listings - worth checking directly rather than through a roundup.
Comedy runs on its own circuit entirely: the Comedy Cellar, UCB and Caveat all publish nightly and none of it reaches the general guides. Paste anything into CouldWe to keep the shortlist somewhere.
