Sending someone an event and inviting them to go are the same thing.
In real life, someone mentions an event they like the look of, other people react, and if a few people are keen, it turns into a plan.
Online, the bit between telling someone about an event and inviting them to go disappears. It's the equivalent of tapping a friend on the shoulder and saying, “Do you want to come to this gig with me?”
That creates pressure for both sides. If they’re not interested, they have to turn it down. If you’re not sure they’ll be up for it, you might not send it at all.
A shared group where anyone can save events they like the look of changes this.
Instead of saying, “Do you want to go to this gig with me?”, you can say, “I’ve added a few things to the group that look good - have a look if any of them are your sort of thing.” That makes people aware of what you’d be up for without forcing an immediate response.
